I'm not much for journaling, but I think that I need an outlet. I've been wrestling with some big questions lately, and I've been hard for my family and friends to deal with, and chewing on the issues in my head is not making anything more clear. So I've set up this blog, and named it for two of the things that I love most in the universe- my dog Mack, and shoes.
I know- how stereotypically female of me- I love puppies and shoes- what a shock. What makes me unusual is that they are both supersized. The dog is a mastiff and the shoes are size 11.
Mack is 4 and a half, and I love him beyond all reason.
He is a rescued dog and I've had him since Halloween of 2003.
He makes me laugh and is so easy to please.
He wiggles with delight when he is happy.
He can't quite get the idea of fetch, but he likes to carry toys around in his mouth squeaking as he goes.
At the dog park, he defers to the smaller, louder dogs.
He has converted the non-dog people in my family to "I'd get a dog if he had the same personality as Mack" status.
He will dance around for pieces of leftover chicken. (Or cheese, beef, bread, etc. In the interest in full disclosure- his favorite sound in the world is the fridge door opening- his eyes light up as he dreams of the infinite possibilities.)
He loves naps, is always up for a road trip, and will watch absolutely anything on TV.
I really could not ask for a better roommate.
And the shoes- well, I'm 5'11", so if I had tiny feet I'd fall over. It's a bit more difficult to find shoes in an 11 since many manufacturers assume that women don't have feet larger than a size 10 and don't spend the money to make lasts that are larger than that, but as women's sports get more popular, and as people get taller, this is hopefully going to change. Uma Thurman has size 11 feet. (So does Paris Hilton making this and our blonde hair the only 2 things that she and I have in common- oh wait- we're both carbon based life forms- so make that 3.)
And for anybody who might be concerned- Mack and the shoes peacefully coexist. He loves to eat food and nibble on dog toys. Not shoes. Thank God.
